How to run combat with the initiative tracker

Initiative decides who acts first in a tabletop RPG fight. Add each player character and monster, give them an initiative score — type it in, or hit the 🎲 button to roll a d20 — and the list automatically sorts from highest to lowest. Tick Mark as enemy before adding a monster so foes are easy to spot in red. Then press Next turn to walk down the order; when it loops back to the top, the round counter ticks up.

Tips

• You can edit any initiative number after adding — the order re-sorts instantly and keeps the highlight on whoever is currently acting.
• Add several copies of a monster (Goblin 1, Goblin 2…) so each rolls its own initiative.
• The whole encounter is saved in your browser, so a refresh won't lose your place mid-fight.

Does it track hit points too?

This tool focuses on turn order. For damage, healing, temporary HP and status effects, use the HP & Conditions tracker alongside it.

Where is my encounter saved?

In your browser only (localStorage). Nothing is uploaded, and clearing browser data clears the list.

How are ties handled?

Combatants with the same initiative keep the order they were added. Edit a score by one point if you want to break a tie.
