How to run combat with the initiative tracker
Initiative decides who acts first in a tabletop RPG fight. Add each player character and monster, give them an initiative score — type it in, or hit the 🎲 button to roll a d20 — and the list automatically sorts from highest to lowest. Tick Mark as enemy before adding a monster so foes are easy to spot in red. Then press Next turn to walk down the order; when it loops back to the top, the round counter ticks up.
Tips
- You can edit any initiative number after adding — the order re-sorts instantly and keeps the highlight on whoever is currently acting.
- Add several copies of a monster (Goblin 1, Goblin 2…) so each rolls its own initiative.
- The whole encounter is saved in your browser, so a refresh won't lose your place mid-fight.
- Does it track hit points too?
- This tool focuses on turn order. For damage, healing, temporary HP and status effects, use the HP & Conditions tracker alongside it.
- Where is my encounter saved?
- In your browser only (localStorage). Nothing is uploaded, and clearing browser data clears the list.
- How are ties handled?
- Combatants with the same initiative keep the order they were added. Edit a score by one point if you want to break a tie.
